Adam Sterling

Assistant Dean (Executive Education), Berkeley Law

In addition to his administrative duties, Adam teaches courses and oversees research on topics including venture finance, corporate governance, and ESG. Previously he was a startup and venture capital attorney at Gunderson Dettmer. Adam’s writings and work have appeared extensively in the press; including contributions to The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, and The New York Times.

Katie Peardon is a corporate lawyer at Fasken Vancouver. She provides strategic counsel to companies in the technology sector, specializing in early-stage, venture capital, growth equity, private equity and M&A transactions.

Kate Grant

Michael Robinson, CFA, ICD.D

Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance, University of Calgary

Dr. Michael Robinson is a Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance in the Haskayne School at the University of Calgary and has been an angel investor, a venture capitalist, and a private equity board member at various stages of his career. He has recently published a book, Founder’s Guide to Governance: Beyond a Good Idea, that is being used in credit and Executive Education programs across Canada.

Val Chiykowski, PhD

Associate, Evok Innovations

At Evok Innovations, Val leans in heavily on the technical due diligence for Series A clean-tech companies and the development of investment theses. Prior to Evok, Val worked with the Creative Destruction Lab to develop mentorship programming for advanced material start-ups and SDTC to provide non-dilutive funding to cleantech companies. She holds a BSc and PhD in Chemistry and Materials.

Laviva Mazhar

Principal, Luge Capital

At Luge Capital, Laviva focuses fintech investment opportunities. She is also involved with various organizations as an advisor including Founder Institute, Front Row Ventures, Holt Accelerator, InsurTechNY and InsurTech North. She was selected to be on the 2017 Global Women in FinTech Powerlist and on Canada’s 2019 Top 50 Women in Fintech by Digital Finance Institute.

Meryeme Lahmami

Principal, Pender Ventures

Meryeme joined Pender Ventures in 2022 to help further develop its health tech investing practice. Previously, she worked at BDC Capital’s Women in Tech Venture Fund, where she led investments in early-stage and growth companies across biotech, enterprise software and digital health.

Etienne Gauthier

Associate, Inovia Capital

Etienne participates in investment sourcing activities, due diligence efforts, and post-investment support to portfolio companies. Before joining Inovia, Etienne was a Growth Equity Investment Analyst at CDPQ, the second-largest pension fund in Canada, where he focused on investment opportunities from Series C to pre-IPO, mainly in the sector of B2B SaaS. Prior to CDPQ, he worked in Strategy Consulting at Roland Berger, supporting large-scale organizations and Private Equity investors in their strategic planning and commercial due diligence efforts.
